24th UN Conference Framework Convention on Climate Change, known as COP24

Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, known as COP24
“...Despite the dire situation, the world could still tackle climate change effectively, he said. Saying it was too expensive to do so was "hogwash".  "For every dollar spent restoring degraded forests, as much as $30 can be recouped in economic benefits and poverty reduction," Mr Guterres said…”

TAKING CARBON OUT OF THE AIR AND PUTTING IT UNDERGROUND WITH BAMBOO
Instead of capturing CO2 from power station exhausts and piping it underground, simply grow Bamboo in the centre of Desserts and store that underground.  This fertilizes the Desserts, making that territory available to flooded Island dwelling communities looking for a new home.

Bamboo grows on sand, is as light as aluminium whilst being as strong as steel when soaked  in borax. Which also ensures that Carbon is not released back to the atmosphere which would be the case for rotting untreated bamboo.  Additionally, trimmings may be mashed up so as to yield a cloth with many of the characteristics of Cotton, though requiring a fraction of the irrigation needed for cotton.

Bamboos require no replanting at all; they shoot themselves and these shoots are edible, thus providing a secondary food crop. Some species could crop within a year, reaching full height in two.

Irrigation of the centre of Desserts is simply a matter of putting “Stable Salt Reactors” in the right places.  Seawater is distilled/desalinated, piped and pumped from the coasts to the centre of desserts: the resulting brine being returned to the sea so as to avoid depleting salinity levels any more than at present from melting Icelandic and Siberian glaciers.

SSR’s are just a few years away from fully licensed deployment.  They run on Gravity so don’t need pumps, whilst compact manufacture enables units shipping on the “back of a lorry” and also are easily clustered/scaled - optimum of eight to a gang.

If SSR’s were developed for Military use,  eg. the Royal Supercarriers, they would become available very much sooner for Climate Change Reversal.

A truly “disruptive game changer”; an investor's dream.  If the oil companies bought into this, events would follow quite rapidly.

Moltex News March 2019

24 Feb 2019
Moltex Energy completes its submission to the UK Advanced Modular Reactor programme
Moltex Energy is one of eight organisations included in the UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s (BEIS) Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) programme. Having received a grant of £300,000 in 2018, Moltex Energy is now bidding for a share of the £40m that is available in 2019. The AMR programme is intended to support promising nuclear technologies.

Advanced Modular Reactors are often thought of as being small, and indeed several companies in the programme have reactors aimed at the portable market, generating 10-40MW. Moltex Energy has a grid-scale generating and energy storage capacity, with variable power outputs from 300MW up to 3000MW. The variable nature of the output is key too, as current nuclear generation produces a constant power output to the grid, known as baseload. The grid needs a variable power source too, to match generation to demand, and this role is currently filled by gas power stations – a fossil fuel. Moltex Energy’s designs include true grid-scale energy storage, so that power generated can be stored until it is needed. This makes a carbon-free energy grid a real prospect.

Having just completed its submission to BEIS, Moltex Energy is looking forward to the awarding of funding and the continuation of SSR development in the UK.

PLAN B: THEY WANT TO FLOOD THE DESERT

Flood the desserts with Desalinated seawater and irrigate Bamboo plantations/forests using Molten Salt Reactors. An MSR is currently being put into service with the Canadian, New Brunswick municipality. This SSR-W will also use nuclear waste. Its massive waste heat will provide limitless distilled water - the new oil.

Bamboo is cropable after a year, can be used as building material, lighter than alumina,
stronger than steel, if soaked in Borax. It shoots itself, doesn't need replanting. Its shoots
are edible. The trimmings are mashable to give a cotton substitute requiring a fraction of
the water. Combines the albedo of grass with the carbon capture of trees.

A real-estate opportunity at this time of rising sea levels.

And time is running out.

Moltex SSR is able to store energy.

London, 13th July 2018
“The Moltex stable salt reactor technology is a perfect fit for
New Brunswick’s power needs,” said Moltex CEO Stephen Haighton.
“It uses spent nuclear fuel, which could help solve the province ’s
future spent-fuel disposal challenge. It is a physically small modular
reactor but is able to store energy, so can double or triple its output
at peak demand times during the day. Most importantly, the
Stable Salt Reactor technology produces very low-cost, clean energy
and can reduce the cost of electricity to consumers while achieving
low-carbon targets. We are very excited to join our new partners and
establish our North American headquarters in New Brunswick.”

Threat to Our Life Support Systems

In this discussion, Tim Lenton of the University of Exeter points out the threat to the
very air we breathe. Though does indicate some possible “benevolent opportunities“
in this “tipping” scenario, though does say these are uncertain, there is not yet any
consensus. Elsewhere he talks about ways to reverse the accumulation of CO2.

One possibility is to flood the desserts with Distilled/Desalinated seawater onto
plantations of Bamboo while the efficiency of Chlorophyl remains optimal:
before it cooks.

The power needed for pumping distilled water from the coast to the centre of
desserts can be achieved with Molten Salt Reactors, which neatly avoid all
the problems of high-pressure water cooled reactors. SSR/LFTR reactors are
just a couple of years away from certification. Their very high level of waste energy
is available for limitless desalination. The SSR type works from gravity so has no
need for pumps, reducing complexity, cost and size so as to enable excellent
location availability. The LFTR type will almost certainly exhibit similar features.

Some types of Bamboo can reach full height in two
years, cropped in one year. All bamboos reseed
themselves - shoot themselves - no need for replanting.
Since Bamboo is a type of grass it becomes the perfect
combination of high albedo and high carbon capture.

The issue of rising sea levels is addressed, as desserts
are converted to fertile real-estate opportunities.
Governments can invest in such projects and expect massive
returns as the private sector take an interest.

Negative Emissions

In this discussion, Tim Rumage (Coordinator Environmental
Studies)points to the need for "Negative Emission" as
distinct from "Zero Emission". This can only be achieved
by flooding the desserts with Distilled/Desalinated seawater
onto plantations of Bamboo.

The power for pumping distilled water from the coast
to the centre of desserts can be achieved with Molten
Salt Reactors. SSR/LFTR reactors are just a couple of
years away from certification. Their colossal high
waist energy is ideal for desalination.

Investing in Climate Change

Investing in the centre of Desserts as the Real-Estate
opportunity of the Globally Warming Climate.

Stable Salt Reactors, being just a few years from licenced
approval, have the interesting characteristic of a
super-high-temperature excess heat, simply begging
to Desalinate sea-water: an endless supply of distilled water
for a Bamboo plantation to carpet the worlds desserts:
simultaneously greening them while
capturing atmospheric CO2.

Greenhouse gasses may not be a cause of Climate Change,
but reducing them can only help reduce Global Warming:
while a cover of grass must improve the planets Albedo.

There is little time left for realising such an investment,
while Photosynthesis remains fully efficient, before
Chlorophyll gets (degraded) cooked.
